ETC645: Lesson 3: Instructor's Note #1

Common Feedback for Lesson 2 Discussion   You should receive your Lesson 2 discussion grade and feedback in your NAU Email.  I hope you find them beneficial.  Here are more of my reflections to advance your learning experiences. This is a longer common feedback for the lesson discussion because this is the first time we participated in the graded lesson discussions. I want to ensure that you have a full understanding of the expectations of the class discussions.   Why do we have two posting-periods? The purposes are to engage you in a network or community learning which emphasizes a cycle of inquiry. In the first-posting period, through the readings and responding to the key questions, you focus on a problem of practices that, if improved upon, significantly and positively impacts yourselves. You learn or unlearn in order to discover your best options. In the second-posting period, you refine and reflect your learning by interconnecting with our c...

Lesson 2: Instructor’s Notes #3: 1st posting period

Since this is the first graded discussion activities, I reflect on what we have accomplished in Assignment 1: PLE and the 1 st posting period for Lesson 2 discussions to help us to advance learning experiences. Lesson Discussions What we did right: ·          Responded to ALL KEY discussion questions by Thursday. ·          I saw many thorough and comprehensive responses to the key discussions with relevant and strong reference supports other than the required readings.  Additional references are always encouraged to strengthen your logical arguments. Continue your great work. ·          Some of you started to respond to other students' postings. It is a strategic approach to engage us in more learner-learner interaction. Predicated on nebulous research, early responses result in effective learning with greater learning outcomes. What...

Lesson 2: Instructor’s Notes #2

Here is our Instruction's Note #2 for Lesson 2. Read them carefully to enhance your learning outcomes and experiences in our class. DUE: Today, Thursday, 01/21/2022: 1st Posting Period Respond to both key discussion questions thoroughly.  Self-Introduction Feel free to continue our conversations in the self-introduction thread. In fact, there are many responses that continue. Don't miss them. It has been my privilege and joy to learn more about your names, work, and life. Each story of yours has captivated me.   Assignment 1 Common Feedback ·        How can I improve the assignment? o   When we provide our arguments/opinions, be sure to justify your arguments, perhaps provide relevant instructional design key points from literature or examples to support your statements. o   The Justifications could be made from instructional designers, different stakeholders or other perspectives etc. More specifically, foc...

Lesson 2: Instructor’s Notes #1

(same message posted on discussion board & email) I hope you had a productive Lesson 1: Orientation week for ETC645. Our class instructional designs and structures are very different from other courses. This is because the course designs are the part of content and journey we need to experience and to learn. We will use " Instructor's Notes " to provide general feedback and comments to support your continuous learning enhancement. Typically, I will disseminate 1 or 2 each week. They will be posted on course twitter feeds, BBLearn, and sometimes via NAU emails. This "Instructor's Notes" contains TWO parts: Lesson discussions, and others.  Currently, I am grading Assignment 1. When completed, I will share common feedback for you to improve your course work.   Lesson Discussions Lesson discussion, one third of the course grade, is a key design to engage students in three types of interaction (learner-learner, learner-content,...

How to path your Instructional Design Experiences for the Job Market

If you are interested in using your ETC degree and expertise to secure an Instructional Designer position, below are the recommendations from a previous ETC graduate, An Pfister. Her recommendations are very valuable. For the ETC student, there are two paths to really think about: higher education and corporate. I've only worked in higher ed., but I've been thinking about corporate and have looked at all the job requirements and keep in touch with a healthy ID community. Here's my take on both: Higher Education This market tends to care more about whether applicants have a Master's. Some of the key concepts that these students will want to be able to convey is a good understanding of adult learning and the science of learning.  When I landed my job in higher education, my solid understanding of Backwards Design and adult learning theories is what propelled me in front of the pack of applicants. Even without experience, showing that you unders...
