Common feedback for Assignment 3

Below are the common feedback for Assignment 3 to help us to improve ideas, designs, and development.  After reviewing all our Assignment 3, I identities a few key points to help us to improve the designs for our group final PD.  I hope you find them useful.  Feel free to contact me if you need any support for your assignment.

·      I like many of your design ideas are very creative.  Some of you challenge yourself with very innovative and creative ideas.

·      Our activities must be completely online since our final project is a complete online PD.

·      Justify your design by providing the logical rationales for selected online technologies and online instructional strategies.  Some of us just listed the technologies and strategies that don’t meet our requirements.

·      We should discuss ALL integrated instructional strategies and technologies in instructional strategy and technology sections.  Frequently, we see there are additional online instructional strategies introduced in the activity section but they are not discussed in instructional strategy section. Why is it important we should clearly identify all integrated strategies and technologies? Strategies and technologies are our key components in our design. If we are not clear with what we integrate how we can assess our designs precisely and logically.

·      While we have good design in mind, in our final product, we need to make sure we have clear instructions or guidelines for our targeted audiences to follow. For example, if we intend to integrate online discussion/discourses with online discussion board to promote active learner-learner interaction, we should have clear online discussion instructions, guidelines, resources, assessments etc. to help our audiences to participate actively in our design. Another example, if we integrate online student moderator to facilitate online discussion, we should have effective online student moderation instructions or guidelines for them to follow. Simply just say students will discuss or moderate the online discussion would not result in effective online learning.

·      Strategy.  Not just say it or identify it.  We need to know what key design elements in that particular strategy.  We should follow the design element for the integrated strategy to guide us to design and develop our instructions.  For example, OCoP is one of strategies for our final PD.  Do you know what OCoP design guidelines or key elements?  Be sure to apply them to help you to develop the online instructions and activities support your online PD.

·      Targeted Audiences: Some of you include “students” as your stakeholder.  Since this is PD, we may not want to mix both teachers/parents and students since they have very different learning goals.  In some ways, not limited to, the content of the digital citizenship for teachers/parents and students may be similar to each other.  But what else we need to cover for teachers/parents?  If you plan to include “students” in your PD, your unit will be much larger.  It is fine but be sure to be comprehensive.  The same content for both teachers/parents and students may not be appropriate.

·      Assessment:

o   Many intend to use rubrics or survey to assess the PD delivery technology and instructional strategies. In our final PD, be sure to include your assessment instruments (rubrics, survey, questionnaire, or reflection etc. ).

o   How to evaluate technologies and strategies?  Remember, just asking the targeted audiences “do you like wiki we use for the PD?” is not enough. Your audiences and you are professional.  We need to know whether our design for the online PD is effective so we need know our design is effective.  So we could evaluate our online PD’s technologies, and strategies from the frequency, effectiveness, satisfaction, usefulness, practices, attitudes, behavior change etc. aspects. We may not need to evaluate all aspects. Certainly, it is great to know all aspects. It depends on what you want to know about your PD design.

o   Assess all integrated strategies. If you have five integrated strategies, we need to evaluate them all and individually. Not just evaluate them as a whole.

·      Coordinate with your teammates

o   Be sure to coordinate with your teammates with your designs.  Frequently, I see that each individual student’s design was outstanding but putting together with the teammates’ parts, they don’t fit well.

o   OCoP or online community design was not clear.  Since each individual teammate’s design certain parts of the unit, it was unclear to see where OCoP or online community may occur.

o   Remember, what design do you have to address in facilitating OCoP or online community, which are organic.

o   I think this is very interesting thought.  I suggest that your team to think what experiences you want your audiences to have.  Facilitating a healthy online community and experiences is very challenging.  If it is too restrict, it may become assessment-based learning.  If it is too loose, the community member may not know what/how to follow.  Do you have any design that address facilitating healthy online learning community??
