Job Description

A great opportunity for a motivated student of the social and behavioral sciences - Adobe's Design Team is looking for a strong intern candidate to learn the ins and outs of product research and strategy while assisting the inclusive design team in developing a robust framework to improve inclusive design practices at Adobe. Our goal is to make Adobe products truly inclusive for users with diverse backgrounds and abilities.  

It's a fantastic opportunity for someone in a masters or PhD program to put their research and communication skills to use while learning about the complexity of product design at a large company.  We're looking for candidates that have focused their education on understanding diverse experiences and understanding and addressing barriers to equity. Must have a reasonable knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods as well as a solid grounding in critical and intersectional theory. Strong teaching and communication skills highly desired.

You must be able to:

    • Learn about unfamiliar technology & user cultures quickly
    • Ask the right questions in order to create an effective study
    • Address the questions effectively and efficiently
    • Assess the project's scope and determine appropriate methods for investigation
    • Effectively communicate with people with diverse backgrounds and abilities
    • Develop a realistic research plan and supporting materials for a non-practitioner audience
    • Conduct rigorous research and analysis
    • Write/Present a clear and insightful set of findings based on your experiments.
    • Explain impact of identity and difference on user experiences to non-practitioners

Your role will allow you to help define the improvements in Adobe's practices around inclusive design and involves conducting primary research to inform these practices. You will have an opportunity to see your recommendations and ideas put into action by teams on Adobe Design as well as impact product direction and strategy.   

What you'll bring to the team:

Must-Haves:

    • Ethnographic Research Experience, comfort and familiarity working on issues around disability and inclusion, behavioral science knowledge, verbal & visual communication skills,
    • Applicants should be working on PhD or masters in anthropology, disability studies, queer/feminist theory, cultural linguistics, sociology, community psychology or related field.

Nice-to-Haves:

    • Teaching/instructional design experience, knowledge of Adobe products (Creative Cloud, Marketing Cloud, Document Cloud/Acrobat)
