(Same message posted to course Twitter & BBLearn Discussion area.)
Dear ETC645 students,
It was wonderful to talk to some of our classmates in BBCollaborate last night. There were some questions asked. I thought I should share them with the class so we have better learning experiences.
Q: Do I need to submit the assignment link to BBLearn?
A: It depends on the assignments. For Assignment 1, share the Google Docs link with me with Edit privilege AND use Assignment Submission Portal to submit the link to receive confirmation e-mail. See the submission instruction for each assignment.
Q: Why do we use Google Docs for assignment and assignment submission?
A: In our class, we introduce Open Educational Resources (OER) instructional concepts and practices for technology integration. ETC645 is a hybrid OER instruction. Many of you will work with me in ETC655 in next session. ETC655 is a complete OER instruction.
Q: This is the first time for me to use Twitter. What can I expect from Twitter?
A: We integrate Twitter as our course announcements. We don't visit BBLearn everyday; however, if we visit our PLE (Symbaloo, Netvibes, or mobile PLE) regularly, we know what been announced in the class. OER, right? We are not required to tweet so you can keep your tweets private. If you intend to reach the audiences who don't follow you, you need to uncheck "Protect my Tweet."
Q: Any suggestion for the final PD?
A: Get your group together ASAP. Review the final PD instructions and discuss how your groups plan to approach this project. If your groups are able to plan ahead, consider integrating Assignment 2 and 3 to support your group final PD. For example,
Q: How can we get familiar with BBCollaborate?
A: We can use our group BBCollaborate to get familiar with BBCollaborate. You will be granted with "Moderator" privilege so you have access to all tools and features. See: BBCollaborate Q & A
Our lesson discussion will start next week. You may notice in our class we will engage in weekly discussions actively throughout the session. I would like to point out a few things that help you to set great mindsets so your learning experiences would be rich and positive.
· Our lesson discussion is more than just Q & A to engage in learner-content and/or learner-instructor interaction. We focus more on learner-learner interaction by reading/reflecting/responding to others' postings is critical.
· We value "learning by sharing;" therefore, online learning community is critical to us. Frequently, I told the students that we learn what we don't know to meet our learning goals and needs; therefore, we move from "minus" to "zero." Learning by supporting others to reach their learning goals/needs, we become more capable; therefore, we move from "zero" to "plus."
· I would like you to ask yourselves these questions constantly while doing the reading, and participating the discussions in ETC645 and ETC655. These questions do not apply to any of our discussion questions, but they are relevant and will help you to understand your own knowledge in integrating online technology into teaching/learning.
o What role does online technology play in human learning? Many people say that online technology is a learning tool. If it is a learning tool, we should have choice NOT To use it. What do you think?
o Does online technology make human smarter? Many say, not necessary. If not necessary, why we need online technology?
o Does online technology increase human learning? More than 30 years literature indicated "no significant difference." If no significant difference, why we need online learning technology? Want to learn more "no significant different?" Google it you will learn more about it.
o How much do we need online technology to support learning? The more; the better? If yes, how much do we need?
