Lesson Discussion Common Feedback

I hope you have positive learning experience in our lesson discussions.  Some of you have served as lesson moderators and expressed your learning experiences with me. Yes, it is not an easy task to be lesson moderators, particularly when we are not the content experts. Many of you expressed you had positive learning experiences in serving as moderators because you learned more in such effective learning strategy.  I hope you can take the experiences learned to improve our 2nd half of the class.

o   What did right?

§  We responded to the two key questions thoroughly and comprehensively in the 1st posting period.

§  Citing relevant literature to support your arguments.

§  We engaged in more learner-learner interaction in the 2nd posting period.

§  We were much actively engaging in our lesson discussions.

§  Our threads were much easier to follow now. Thanks for your cooperation in applying right method to reply the discussions.

o   What can we improve?

§  Go beyond your experiences. As master students, we need to be able to apply learning theories, learning paradigm, media theories, media characteristics, media principles, theoretical framework, literature etc. to support our argument in additional to our own experiences.  This is how it distinguishes us from others.

§  Citing different literature to support your arguments rather than citing the required readings.

§  Q: Do we need to read more than just the required readings to respond to the discussion questions?

·      A: Dependents on your knowledge in the discussion questions.  It is always good to read more to challenge yourselves and to learn more.

§  Be sure to respond to the questions raised by others to your postings. Respond to the follow-up question posted by the instructor? Yes. Frequently, I challenge us to think critically.

§  Q: Is it enough to post 4 postings in each lesson?

·      A: If you have quality postings, certainly, it would be enough.  I know you have many reflections to share with the class while reading classmates' postings. Why not, take time to share with us.  Previous students often posted more than 4 postings.  In fact, the average postings for each lesson were more than 10 postings. The more you share; the more you learn.

§  Key word for Subject field: Did you update the Subject field for each of your postings?  Do update with the relevant keywords so our threaded discussions will be easier to follow when we are ready to read and to reply to the postings.
